Senior Furniture, Upholstery and Lighting Designer - Anthropologie - Philadelphia, USA

Responsible for the Furniture, Upholstery and Lighting design team at Anthropologie. Working with the Concept Team to deliver new direction and trends each season, leading to a collaboration with the Buying and Production teams to create unique product designs across furniture, upholstery and lighting.
Head of Home - French Connection - London, UK
February 2016 - August 2017
In charge of the Home department at French Connection, working in a small team designing and developing products from furniture and lighting, to mirrors and home accessories. Responsible for all product design and development, brand identity, creative conception and continuation of the current range through e-commerce, retail, concessions and licensing. Working across several different teams - from marketing and graphics to visual merchandising and retail - having the ability to focus time and effort where necessary. Ideas and concept boards presented to the CEO seasonally, leading to individual product designs, sample development and overseas sourcing trips. The role combined all aspects of a products development from initial sketch to execution in stores and online, including organising and styling the photoshoots for the seasonal campaigns.
Lead Furniture Designer - Marks & Spencer - London, UK
January 2014 – January 2016
In charge of all furniture and upholstery design at Marks and Spencer from SS15 onward. My role covered all areas of the home including Living, Dining, Home Office, Bedroom, Bathroom, Kids and Outdoor. I was responsible for all new developments, continuation of the existing range, and identification of new product opportunities and categories. I managed and collaborated with suppliers, designers and major brands such as Ercol, Conran and Marcel Wanders. A major part of my job was to forecast and study customer patterns and identify new trends in keeping with company strategy. I worked closely with the internal and external supply chain, had daily contact with suppliers and factories, and travelled extensively throughout the year to countries such as Brazil, China and Indonesia. Several furniture pieces have been the feature of magazine articles in publications such as Elle Decoration, Living Etc, The Sunday Times, Ideal Home, House & Garden, and Kitchens Bedrooms & Bathrooms. My design for the Conran Ashworth Desk was awarded a Design Guild Mark.
Furniture Designer - Next Plc - Leicester, UK
October 2011 – December 2013
Based in Leicester I was responsible for various areas of the home including Living, Dining, Home Office, Mirrors, Fireplaces and Hallway. My first full range, a contemporary high gloss design, generated £2.2m in its first season. I had several products officially design registered and have had products featured in Elle Decor magazine. Extensive travel to factories in China and Malaysia to brainstorm new products and ideas.
Bespoke Furniture Designer - Robert Timmons Furniture Ltd - London, UK
September 2008 – October 2011
In charge of new projects, developing ideas and concepts, 3D modelling, renderings and fully detailed manufacturing drawings. Responsible for increased productivity and throughput of projects, lowering lead time from 9-10 weeks to just over 5 weeks. Have worked on projects for all areas of the home, designing individual products to entire room sets. Regular trips abroad to various furniture fairs and exhibitions ensured the latest trends and technologies could be incorporated into my designs.
Design Director & Founder - Freedom To Exist - London, UK
April 2014 – January 2017
Co-founder of a minimal watch brand called Freedom To Exist, creating timepieces free from fast fashion and passing trends. Each watch has a domed lens and case back, with simple, elegant detailing. Coupled with a Swiss movement and genuine leather straps, each watch is a modern classic. All aspects of launching a new brand and a new company where undertaken by the 3 founders. My role was predominantly product design, technical drawings and specifications. This also included graphics for the website, look book and press imagery.
Junior Designer - First Man Standing Ltd - London, UK
September 2006 – May 2008
Responsible for conceptual design and sketch work, research and development and designing and making prototypes. Directly involved in the design of an innovative new wheelchair that reduces Repetitive Strain Injury and Carpel Tunnel Syndrome. My role in the project was conceptual, 3D Modelling and renderings, sourcing materials and suppliers, and completing fully detailed Patent Drawings.
BA (Hons) Product Design - The Nottingham Trent University
September 2003 – July 2006
A Chartered Society of Designers (CSD) accredited course, working on live industry briefs set by real clients such as Paul Smith and Nestle, my work was exhibited at the final year Degree Show in London. My course focused on creative design skills in order to develop new products for manufacture within a wide range of industries. During the first two years I studied alongside 'BSc (Hons) Product Design' and 'BA (Hons) Furniture and Product Design' courses, enabling me to develop a multi-disciplinary perspective.
